To be a Pirate! A simple guide.

Hey there Shadygamer community.



Ex-Pirate king here ( Or, I still am the pirate king, to some of you that is <3 )

I will try to make a really easy to follow guide on HOW to be a pirate, if you wish to become one.

Things you will need!

1. A brain
2. A torrenting application (uTorrent, BitComet, ETC)
3. A reliable source
4. A relatively decent internet connection is recomended
5. A good grasp on the English language. Well enough for us to understand you, and well enough to HELP people, if need be.
6. A good place to host your files!
7. Other stuff

Firstly, the brain.
You are born with this, congratulations, you've done the first step! That was easy huh?



Secondly, an application for torrenting
The reason that a pirate should have something to download torrents is because...if somebody requests a game, or a movie, or some music...but there are NO good sources online, or no good FREE sources around on the web for you to leech. Or download and re-upload yourself. You will want to use a torrent because in 99% of cases, you can find whatever it is you need, with a torrent. But be warned though, you can get caught. It does happen. I have been caught several times. (But I still do it )

Thirdly, a reliable source
What I mean by, a reliable source...is well a lot of the previous members who were sharing files here, were leeching them from other sites. Which is all fine and nice, because that happens, all the time. And I can't say I have never done it. But...if you are going to do so, you NEED to have a reliable source. I don't really know how to explain this, so I will let your BRAIN figure it out. (Reliable meaning...they have basically everything, or have ways to get whatever, links are normally alive...or re-uploaded.)


Fourth...A good internet connection! (recommendation, not a REQUIREMENT)
This one is especially important if you wish to be a good pirate! Why? Well, when somebody requests a file. You don't want to spend 3 and a half hours download one movie, and then spend another 4+ hours uploading it up onto a new hoster, do you? No...and also you wouldn't be a very popular pirate really because SOME of us, are really freaking quick when it comes to getting links, or uploading things for people

This is an example of a incredibly good internet connection for pirates!


This would be a terrible connection for a pirate!



Fifthly! (is that a word? lol) Know some english!
This one should be a given, but just in case you did not know this...but shadygamer, is a mainly english community. Our users span world-wide! But our main language, is english. So, if you are going to be a pirate here at shadygamer, you need to at least be able to understand english. And would probably be even better if you knew how to read/type in english. So that way, if somebody has a problem with one of your files..you can easily communicate with said member and help them out! Instead of being like ...... and we'd all be like " Y U NO SPEAK ENGLISH!? "




And for sixth! A good place to host your files
This one is actually quite hard to guide people on, because it seems that SOME places are freaking incredible for some people, and suck horribly bad for others. Or there are places with GREAT download speeds! But very low filesize limits for free-users! The thing you need to do here, is try to find a middle ground. What allows a decent file size (1GB) and what has a semi-decent download speed for free users. Some places like Mediafire, and rapidshare, are very VERY popular, and VERY well known! Mediafire, has a very small file-limit, but their download speeds are VERY nice! So even though you might have to cut your upload into 30+ parts, they will still download it faster than a 3-part download from RAPIDSHARE (which caps their free-users to 30 kb/s By the way.) Also..something else to be careful of too...since we are a world-wide community...try to find filehosters that do not have IP locks on countries! (Or if they do, very few countries.) Also it is a VERY good idea to upload to several sites at the same time incase you can't find that sweetspot (middle ground I talked about before.)

And lastly...( Extra things )
This is a huge part of being a pirate, and I am being serious about this. Many, actually, most..if not all of the previous uploaders on this site. Have never tested their downloads before uploading them! You know how much it sucks to download a 30+ part download, only to find out its corrupt! That sucks now doesn't it? Do you really want to do that to somebody? One major rule as a pirate...it is not written...its one of those unwritten rules that we all should follow, but many seldom do. When you find something you want to share...download it yourself first. Test it out, make sure that it works! Also make sure its a CLEAN share too! And if you are leeching your share from another source ( remember the reliable source thing I mentioned? That comes in handy here) don't copy-paste the ENTIRE share completely! That makes you terribly unoriginal You can leech the links, at the very least, but at LEAST test them out. And when sharing the file, make the share your own! Type up your own descriptions, or if your going to copy it...change up some stuff to make it your own! Originality means a lot in the world of pirates. (Also makes you a lot more well known, like if you have a certain style you ALWAYS post shares in? )

One more major thing to mention, make sure your shares have CRACKS with them or any special installation instructions it may need to work! ALL SHARES MUST BE IN ENGLISH! (Unless requested specifically otherwise! Or music)

Think you've got what it takes to swim with the sharks? The elite of the elite? ARE YOU READY FOR THE AWESOME OCCUPATION THAT IS BEING A PIRATE?! Okay...that is going a little overboard! But hey, if you think you can do everything I mentioned above, or at least most of it...apply for pirate! You can do that HERE!

I've been pirating tons of stuff for years already, but I've never been caught. How did you get caught?

And like I said, I've been caught several times. From torrenting. Actually it was because a friend of mine was torrenting at my house, and he left it SEEDING alll night and all day, and they caught my IP, not me personally.

Who doesn't think you are the pirate king? You made the section what it was. Built it up from the ground.

I think you should tag all new pirates and this should be stickied in the App section.
